Village Green Woods

Did you know that there are almost six acres of forest at the Village Green? And one mile of walking trails? We should be proud!
But there are problems. There are dense thickets of invasive plants, a monoculture of crowded trees, native plants smothered by invasives, an absence of next generation trees and a degraded habitat for wildlife. The Village Green Woods need the community’s help.
In true Kingston spirit, a group of volunteers has been working for a year to remove the invasive plants and plant native trees and shrubs. They have been helping to establish a diverse habitat for wildlife and complex native understory layers. Consistent with the goals of the Village Green, our goal is to make the woods a place to thrive and find inspiration.
We have work parties on the third Saturday of each month from 10am until noon. Come out and feel inspired to help our community thrive. Bring along your favorite tools, a good pair of gloves, boots and a great big smile. If you have questions, please contact Dave Greene at jd.greene@mac.com. If digging in the woods isn’t your thing and you’d rather help us to buy supplies, please donate to the cause through the Village Green Foundation and direct your gift to the Village Green Woods.
